READINGS:

ROM 16:25-27
LUKE  1:26-38
Beloved in Christ, as we gather this morning to celebrate the 4th sunday of advent we are being reminded that God’s ways are not our ways. We may make even noble plans but God will always have the final say in our life. Therefore I will like us to reflect this morning on what should characterised our relationship with God by reflecting of the life of the persons the readings of today  spoke about; namely,David, Joseph and Mary. These were people who had a personal plan for their life but God intervene and changed the course of their life.
Consequently,  I have chosen”WE OWE GOD OUR OBEDIENCE” as our theme for this sunday.
My dear friend in Christ,  we in a world that believes so much in appearance, rituals or ceremonies to the neglect of the underline principle guiding these rituals or ceremonies. For instance, some christians today think God is only interested in their offering or sacrifice and not how they live their life. Thus they have limited the relationship with God to the offering of rituals and sacrifice.
For them their maxim is ” God needs what I give and not what I do with my life. They have therefore ignored the famous wise saying” obedience is better than sacrifice.
Beloved in Christ,  this morning mother church invites us to a life of obedience: which is a life of total submission to the will of God. This is what David , Joseph and Mary did and were rewarded by God. The truth is the sacrifice you offer to God cannot take the place of your personal holiness.
Beloved,  what good is it if you offer your body to be burnt but have no love. Let us therefore move away from being christians who are only interested in the outward show of our relationship with God to the neglect of our personal holiness.
Finally,  though Christian obedience is a risk taking venture, it is worthwhile because of God.
May God bless you as you share this homily with your friends.
