THEME: THE CALL TO REPENT

Dear friends in Christ, this morning  we hear Jesus beginning his public ministry with a call on us to repent  for the kingdom of heaven is at hand(Matt 4:17); the time has come  for God to make good his promises to us.
And we are to see this : a change in both heart and mind as a call to change one’s attitude towards sin and God
This call then involves a complete change of heart and mind set towards God which is manifested by one’s desire to lead a good life. Thus, the testimony of your desire for repentance is your life. Therefore repentance then is not an act of lip service but a concrete way of life.

Beloved, genuine repentance involves three steps; namely,
a) recognition of one’s guilt(  that we are sinners and are under God’s judgment- 1John 1:8, Rms  6:23).
b) Trust that God will forgive you- Paslm 51 , Heb 8:12).
c) Turn from sin, to God-  John 3:16, Acts 2:21)

Again, the call of the disciples in the gospel of today also reminds us that repentance involves a renunciation, a leaving behind and a letting go. Thus ,for the first four disciples, it involves a leaving behind and the following of the Master.

Beloved, let us therefore resolve from today not to use only our lips to say that we have changed rather let our lives communicate our change to people, for our God is not a lip service God.
