Home / Reflections / THE TEARS HAS A MEANING

Why was a beloved friend, taken home at this time in his or her life? This is one of the numerous questions that are left unanswered whenever we think about death and this makes death a mystery. But has death ever been normal or convenient and not a shock? Well for some, death is a relief from sickness and the pain of this life.

But generally, the ‘whys’ of death coupled with the human belief that life runs on the principle of cause and effect makes the acceptance of death as the will of God more challenging. Therefore, while people normally accept the demise of the aged or the sick, that of a younger person or the healthy leaves one inconsolable and broken-hearted.

Consequently, every death fill the eyes with tears of pain and disappointment. But the tears that are shared at the death of a loved one are meant to teach a lesson only a few readily see and learn. For instance, the tears shared at the death of a young person or a healthy person is a reminder that life is unpredictable and the need for us to make hay while the sun shines. Also , for the aged and the sick, the tears communicates the fact that nothing is permanent or last forever.

However, Sadly, the tragedy is that for most people the tears they shed at the death of a loved ones do not inspire any change in their lives. Remember, though there is death and it’s inevitable, God is still in control of the affairs of this life . We are obliged to make Him the center of our lives.

Therefore, the next time you attend the burial of a loved one and you begin to cry remember Luke 23:28. “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and your children “ Don’t just cry for the sake of crying but remember the tears has a meaning and it is for conversion and repentance. For in 2 Samuel 12:23 : David says that we cannot bring back the dead but we will go to them and be reunited with them in eternal friendship. Let your weeping not only be for the dead but use it as the motivation to turn around your life for the glory of God.
