NATIONAL DIVINE MERCY CELEBRATION HELD AT APOWA
This year’s National Celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday has been held in the Sekondi-Takoradi Diocese.The celebration held on Sunday, 8th April, 2018 was hosted by the St. John the Evangelist Parish, Apowa.
Most Rev. Essien, Bishop of Sefwi Wiawso Diocese presided over the Mass celebrated to commemorate the occasion, with Most Rev Gabriel Justice Yaw Anokye, Archbishop of Kumasi Catholic Archdiocese as the homilist. Also present were Most Rev John Bonaventure Kwofie , CSSp, Bishop of Sekondi-Takoradi Catholic Diocese together with Msgr Francis Abuah Quansah, ( Vicar General), VRev. Fr Raphael Mensah( Chancellor ), VRev. Fr James Mesu ( Priests’ Personnel Director ) as well as Priests and Religious from the Sekondi Takoradi metropolis and other Priests Arch/Dioceses in Ghana; not forgetting devotees of the Divine Mercy led by the National Director, Dr. R. A. Owusu.
Archbishop Justice Anokye, in his homily led the congregation to contemplate the mercy of God via numerous examples of the God’s Divine Mercy at work in the lives of biblical characters. He encouraged Christians to imitate the mercy of Jesus Christ in whatever they do whether as church leaders, workers, parents, students, etc.
He also mentioned that the resurrection of the Lord is factual and not fiction. This he explained using both biblical and historical references.
There was a procession after Mass to the Divine Mercy Sanctuary at St. Mary’s Minor Seminary at Apowa for the Divine Mercy prayers.
The theme for the celebration was “IMPLORE GOD TO HAVE MERCY ON US AND ON OUR COUNTRY “
