HOMILY FOR THE 13TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR B
2 Corinthians 8:7-9,13-15
Mark 5 21-24
THEME: “ONLY HAVE FAITH”
Beloved in Christ, Mother Church today invites us to reflect on faith as the means through which we overcome all barriers and obstacles in our lives. This is important because our God is a giver of life and has therefore created us for life and will do everything to ensure that His desire or plan for us is fulfilled.
This is therefore the reason why the first reading says nothing will change God’s plan for us and that God will even go to the extra mile to achieve his plan for us.
Beloved, we on our part must be ready to overcome every barrier and obstacle to our faith. This is what Jarius and the woman with the flow of blood teach us. They never gave up but waited patiently on God and they were vindicated, although they needed to overcome social and religious barriers. This demanded courage which resulted in a desire for action.
My dear friend, imagine the public ridicule this woman might have suffered on account of her condition and also Jarius on account that his request was for a daughter and not a son. But because they resisted social and religious stigma and approached Jesus, their faith was rewarded.
Beloved, we are to rise above the social definition of our lives so that through a consistent relationship, our lives will be transformed to manifest the glory of God. This then is our charge today.
