Theme: JESUS WHO FORGIVES AND RESTORES

Beloved in Christ, as we gather in worship on this first day of the week celebrating, Mother Church invites us to reflect on the risen Lord as one who forgives us and restores all our broken relationships. This image is clearly seen in Jesus’ encounter with Peter(the man who had denied him three times on of Holy Thursday).
And this encounter assures us that we have a God who will not give up on us because we have sinned against him.

This understanding leads us to appreciate Jesus’ encounter with Peter, where we are reminded that the followers of Jesus are led in love and it is in this love that the followers come to discover Jesus our Saviour.

Beloved, it is with this in mind that we can appreciate Jesus’ threefold Love question to Peter, “do you love me”(agapas) as in do you love me to the extent of sacrificing for me (John 21:15). And to which Peter answered yes I love you but it is to the level of feeling, sentiment, affection and attachment.

Beloved, Jesus then used the occasion to explain to Peter that genuine love is sacrifice and responsibility, hence, the command to feed the lambs and sheep. This means that for the disciples suffering for Jesus becomes a moment of joy(Acts 5:41). Consequently, it is better to obey God and suffer than to obey man and rejoice. Thus, Christian suffering becomes an expression of your love for Christ.

Finally, beloved the fact that the risen Lord forgives and restores us is a call to look beyond our present weakness and admit the fact that we too can witness to the power of the resurrection with joy no matter the challenges we encounter on account of our past life choices and decisions.
