PROPHET : CALLED AND SENT BY GOD
Beloved in Christ, this morning Mother Church wishes to remind us that God has a specific plan for each of us and as a result God also qualifies us to fulfill this specific task.
We are indeed privileged through baptism to be called and sent as prophets of God; to take the word of God and to proclaim it to the whole world. This involves the call to stand up and to tell them all that God has said.
But sadly enough it is this aspect of standing up for God as prophets that most of us Christians have failed; not for lack of knowledge but fear of the reaction of people to the truth of God. For instance, in Ghana today issues of national interest have sadly enough become issues of partisan political interest. This situation has led to people with different views being insulted here and there.
Beloved the fact is this: though the messenger of the truth can be destroyed, the truth itself cannot be killed. This is clearly seen in the gospel of today. For though the audience could not accept Jesus’ idea of God’s universal love for humanity , their resistance and rejection did not deny this truth about God. Hence the truth will always be the truth no matter where, how and who says it.
For the bearer of the truth is not the seeker of popularity but a deliverer of the message of truth whether accepted or not.
Let us pray that God will make us the genuine prophets called and sent by him.
